There are
literally thousands of things to do in this area of North Carolina. Here
are some good places to get started planning an enjoyable vacation.
The Whistle Stop is ideally located in the Smoky Mountains. It is a little over an hour away from Gatlinburg, TN, and only 4 miles away from access to the famed Appalachian Trail. Also in the vicinity is your choice of five rivers for white water rafting. A short car ride will bring visitors to the Cherokee Native American Reservation. There, guests can tour the reservation, visit the casino, and see a live Cherokee outdoor drama that poignantly retells the history of the Cherokee people. The Biltmore House, one of the largest private residences ever built, is not far away and open for tours. During the Christmas months the Biltmore has some of the most festive decorations anywhere. The area contains many trails to hike or ride on horseback and even one of the nation's largest bingo halls. If you happen to be sports minded, the Nantahala Outdoor Center has been at the center of whitewater rafting for more than 30 years. Their paddling school is designed for everyone - from first-time novice kayakers to advanced paddlers looking to refine their skills. They even have a training center for American Canoe Association whitewater instruction certification, raft guides, and wilderness medicine as well as mountain biking. Hiking. Lake tours. Fly fishing. Alpine tower climbing. If you are into hunting, the lodge is located in the Chattahoochee National Forest providing some of the most challenging terrain around. If you want a challenge hunting for deer, bear, wild boar or turkey, you should consider Whistle Stop Lodge as your base camp for your entire party. If fishing is your sport, Fontana Lake is directly below the lodge and the Fontana Dam is within 30 minutes drive time. The Almond Boat Park Marina is located just three miles from the lodge. If mountain biking is your sport, "The Dragon's Tail" road begins west of the Lodge and snakes through 318 hairpin turns in just 11 miles. From gem mining to skiing to hiking the Appalachian Trail,
there's never a dull moment. or Call Toll Free: 866-646-0303
